What to do with iPhoto if you now use Windows instead of a Mac
iPhoto is a photo management application that was developed by Apple for use on their Mac computers.
If you no longer use a Mac but have switched to a Windows computer, there are a few things you can do to continue using the photos you have stored in iPhoto.
First, you will need to transfer your iPhoto library to your Windows computer.
This can be done by connecting your hard drive to your Windows computer and then copying the iPhoto library file over to the Windows computer. The iPhoto library file is typically located in the “Pictures” folder in your user account directory on your Mac.
Once the iPhoto library file is on your Windows computer, you can use a third-party application to access the photos. One such application is iPhoto Library Manager, which allows you to view and organise your iPhoto library on a Windows computer.
However, if you want to get access to your photos without all the extras from iPhoto you can simply pull out the main folders and reorganise as you see fit.
Navigate to the iPhoto library (which now appears as a Folder with the same name as the iPhoto library) and locate a sub-folder called ‘Originals’ or ‘Masters’ (depending on which version of iPhoto was used to create the iPhoto library). Your photos will be in sub-folders under the ‘Originals’ or ‘Masters’ folder. If you edited any photos they will be in a folder called ‘Modified’, or a folder with a similar name.
Another option is to use a cloud storage service such as iCloud or Google Photos to store and access your photos.
You can upload your iPhoto library to the cloud and then download it onto your Windows computer. This will allow you to access your photos from anywhere, as long as you have an internet connection.
If you no longer want to use iPhoto and prefer to use a different photo management application on your Windows computer, you can also export your photos from iPhoto and import them into the new application.
This can be done by selecting the photos you want to export in iPhoto and then choosing “Export” from the File menu. Once the photos are exported, you can import them into the new application.
If you no longer use a Mac and have switched to a Windows computer, you have a few options for continuing to use the photos stored in iPhoto.
You can transfer the iPhoto library to the Windows computer and use a third-party application to access the photos, pull the photos out of iPhoto entirely, use a cloud storage service, or export the photos from iPhoto and import them into a different photo management application on the Windows computer.
