LaCie 2big Thunderbolt Series RAID 0 4TB
LaCie 2big Thunderbolt Series is a software-based RAID desktop solution for business and power users.
A small independent film producer called us for help with their Lacie RAID system which was malfunctioning. They were in the middle of editing a major project and needed help fixing the problem fast. Could we quickly help them?
With our lab having the ability to accept pre-arranged drop-offs for urgent cases, we can get to work right away. Having worked on many different RAID systems, we were confident that we could get a good result for our customer.
Once in the lab, we found the Lacie RAID system comprised of 2 x Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 hard drives. Therefore, we were confident in turning the job around in good time.
Having identified the system was using RAID 0 (Striped set), meaning both disks had to be made functional. We needed to get good images of both drives or recovery would be impossible as RAID 0 has no redundancy. Also, RAID 0 is not technically RAID (more on that in another post).
As in most RAID 0 cases, one disk is usually worse than the others and this was no different. However, we managed to get perfect images of both disks, rebuilt the RAID, and recovered 100% of customer’s data 🙂
All done in a quick time frame, with minimal downtime for the film studio and more importantly, no data loss whatsoever!
